Paisagem Macia, 2024
Paisagem Macia (Soft Landscape) is a fabric sculpture in textile collage that explores the concept of welcoming failure. The piece, inspired by the mythology of Sisyphus, is presented as a reflection by the artist on what she imagines her own Sisyphus stone would be like: soft and warm, like a mochi* freshly made by her obachan.
All colors of this landscape are hand dyed.
* Mochi is a Japanese sweet made from glutinous rice and molded, while still warm, into a circular shape. The sweet is part of Sayuri's story, as she grew up watching her obachan - Japanese grandmother - make these sweets for moments of spiritual connection with her ancestors.
