PANINHO (SERIES), 2013

The series Paninho began in 2013 alongside my research into shibori, a traditional Japanese dyeing technique. It involves preserving parts of the fabric from contact with the dye through methods such as stitching, folding, or tying. The contrast between the coloured and non-coloured areas of the fabric composes the patterns.

I see my actions on the fabric as acts of negotiation and affection. The patterns that emerge from this ancient practice reflect my emotional state during this dialogue: how tightly I tie the knots, or how loose they become when I am tired; the urgency of production, whether I am joyful or sad. In this way, each piece becomes a testimony of my emotions, intertwined with a testimony of our times - like a scar on skin.
